EA is giving BF3 away for free until June 4 (I think) on Origin.

Roger that: Battlefield 4 gets netcode improvement patch

*The following is a transcript of a recorded conversation from a U.S. military base.*

Private Rogers: That "major" update to Battlefield 4's netcode that DICE VP Karl Magnus Troedsson mentioned last week is ready to launch, major!

Major Clarence: Roger, Roger. Are we green, general?

General Victor: You have clearance, Clarence. The Battlefield 4 netcode update is now live on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC, and will be released to PS4 and Xbox One systems later this week. In tests, it showed a roughly 60 percent reduction in delay. The patch also contains various bug fixes and tweaks to gameplay, such as reduced camera shake induced by being near an explosion.

*You finish reading the notes and think to yourself, "It sure is fortunate that these military professionals said all this information out loud, even though it likely seemed extraneous at the time."*

As of late, I have noticed a HUGE increase in server based lag. I dont know if it has todo with too many private servers are going but lag is pretty bad at times.

    Battlefield Hardline Beta Results

EA has listened to player feedback and implemented some changes:

The dust has settled now that EA's Battlefield Hardline Beta is over, and they have taken all participants feedback into consideration, making some changes to the game before its release in October. The following list makes up the most requested changes, as expressed by players:

    • Movement: Player movement speed has been increased by 10%, including when having the pistol equipped and drawn.
    • Suppression: When your avatar is suppressed by enemy fire, your aimpoint is no longer affected by an annoying camera bounce (however, your situational awareness still is)
    • Survivalist: The Survivalist gadget has been weakened to revive the player at one health and auto-inject after 5 seconds.
    • High Tension: The Crane Camera Shake has been tuned down for this event (was originally a bit over the top). In addition, the stairs should no longer pull players into the wall.
    • Elevated Objectives: New feedback indicators have been added to let you know whether an objective is above or below you.
    • Vehicles: The developers are aiming to allow more drive-able vehicles (such as the Fuel Truck) into all maps, and cars will get a handbrake feature. In addition, players should be able to melee "nudge" stuck vehicles out of their tight spots. Heavy armoured vehicles have had weak spots added to the rear to make them not completely invincible. Finally, an indicator has been added to the player's HUD to let them know if another player in their vehicle is currently carrying a bag (in applicable bag carrying game modes).
EA promises that the feedback is still being sifted through, and will announce when further changes are incorporated into the game. Battlefield Hardline will be released on Xbox 360 and Xbox One in October.

    Battlefield 4 Updates!!

With the "Dragon's Teeth" sinking deep into the soldiers of Battlefield 4, game developer DICE is putting in the effort to try and keep the killing fields as bug free as possible. It's been a rough ride for players of the title, and there have already been plenty of updates and patches for the game. Will this patch make enough difference to put smiles on the dedicated soldiers faces?

With the "Battlefield 4 Community Test Environment" running at full throttle, the team has been hard at work and has a decent list of improvements and changes to be released in a patch soon:

    Core Gameplay Update

The current CTE initiative revolves around making the core gameplay of Battlefield 4 even better. This initiative has been in full swing for a little over two months now, and we’ve made a lot tweaks and changes that we hope you have enjoyed. As we’re nearing the end of this initiative and the release of the next Battlefield 4 update, these are the major fixes that it will include:

    Game Mode Improvements

General improvements and tweaks have been made to the following game modes: Rush, Obliteration, Obliteration Competitive, Capture the Flag and Carrier Assault.

    Visual Recoil

Close and medium range optic reticules do not move with the gun any longer, however both bullet spread and bullet drop are still present.

    Soldier Movement

Changes have been made to soldier movement so that it closely matches the one in Battlefield 3, but without compromising the visual fidelity. This change also makes it easier to get away from undesirable firefights.

Additionally, we’ve dampened third person hit reactions where the soldier previously moved his head around a lot when getting shot at.

    HUD Triage

Focusing on clarity, and de-cluttering the HUD/UI to only show what is important – we have added several options and functionality to make your screen much less cluttered (and give you a lot of choice in making it the way you want).

    Revive Mechanic Improvements

A special effort went into making revives easier to use, more robust and easier to understand. Additions include a “fully charged” paddle sound, UI indication on revive time and better networked ragdolls.

    “Netcode” Improvements

Making ping differences, trade kills and kills behind cover less of an issue by lowering the time allowed to damage on the client side.

Automatic High Frequency Update setting enforced with the intent of release to all platforms, including Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Improvements to bullet damage times from client to client, “dusting” and de-syncs.

    Vehicle Balance

Identifying and tweaking the top vehicles in need of buffs and nerfs.

    Weapon Balance

We’ve focused on maintaining a consistent Time To Kill (how long an average engagement lasts for). With the changes to visual recoil, the third person hit reactions and improved “tickrates” has been sped up somewhat as we still need to balance this with damage and recoil changes.

Suppression systems has also been re-tuned and made clearer.

    What’s next?

The next initiative on the CTE will be called the Teamplay Initiative. Here we will focus on improving teamplay and the objective aspects of playing Battlefield. This will include everything from Commander, Squads, Field Upgrades and Game Mode improvements, features and bug fixes. Are you interested in being a part of the testing community? Then so long as you are a Premium Member, you can sign up for the Community Test Environment right here.

The detailed patch for Battlefield 4 is currently aiming to go live in September. We'll bring you a more specific release date for both versions of the game as soon as possible.
